What could be better than a lazy Sunday morning, spent enjoying a leisurely breakfast at one of Penrith’s up-and-coming rustic restaurants? One of the best bits about our job is the opportunities we get to spend time with our customers, particularly when they create food and coffee as appetising as the choices available on the High St Depot’s menu.
Located in the heart of the CBD in Penrith, the High St Depot has a relaxed, tranquil ambience, which is a refreshing contrast to the hectic environment which is part and parcel of life in Sydney. An engaging combination of rustic, modern and industrial styling sees bare brickwork combined with vases of fresh native flowers and plenty of authentic wood to create an appealing fusion of influences that invites customers to linger! Even the plates are all hand-made: just one of the many ways in which diners are given a unique eating experience.
ARIA-trained chefs!
The restaurant is a family-owned business, run by Matt Moran’s ARIA-trained chef couple Noreen and Tim. The ethos behind the venture is simple: to provide a hearty, healthy and delicious menu that’s complemented by an exceptional range of beverages, all served in an appealing setting. In our opinion, the High St Depot more than lives up to its aim!
Delicious food that showcases nutrition and flavour
Whether you opt for the impeccable Eggs Benjamin, Baked Eggs “Shashuka” or a Quinoa Bircher, the menu offers something for everyone. Providing a contemporary twist on perennial favourites, dishes such as the Breaky Burger sees traditional breakfast fry-up choices reinvented as fresh, healthy alternatives which are big on both nutrition and taste. With Vegan and Vegetarian options readily available, each menu item features locally sourced produce and exquisite flavour combinations.
Some of the best coffee in the district!
We were delighted to see that the care which has clearly gone into the creation of the impressive menu has also been extended to the beverages on offer. An imposing array of single-origin coffee, combined with a selection of teas, juices and, of course, our Beloka mineral water, resulted in a selection of drinks which provided the perfect complement to the menu. The coffee was among some of the best we’ve ever drunk, enhanced by a serving of Beloka Water to cleanse the palette and to enjoy alongside our brew. The High St Depot stocks both sparkling and still Beloka Water, enabling customers to pick a premium mineral water which works well with their menu choices.
Why we’ll be back!
Not only are Tim and Noreen exceptionally friendly hosts, their food is amazing and the range of beverages stunning. Combine this with a welcoming, under-stated ambience and you have an excellent recipe for great dining. We love the laid-back atmosphere coupled with freshly cooked food that’s also extremely well presented. We were obviously delighted to see Beloka Water on the menu, not least because it was a great choice for remaining hydrated while sampling the coffee! Whether you opt for Beloka Water as part of the breakfast menu, alongside your morning caffeine fix, or prefer it later in the day as a refreshing accompaniment to the lunch menu, our mineral water certainly adds value to the High St Depot dining experience.
Would we recommend?
Absolutely, we would! This is a great restaurant for anyone who wants to enjoy a rustic, contemporary breakfast or lunch in a relaxed, comfortable environment. A great choice for families, couples or groups of friends, we found the High St Depot to be a pleasant change from the more frenetic feel of some of Sydney’s other eating establishments. We hope to see you there next time we visit!
