Infused Water—Is it Just a Hype?

Water is the essence of life—it sustains the body, keeps it energized, and hydrated so it functions optimally. For some, however, drinking water every single day can be tedious. It is perhaps this reason that infused water came to being.

Also called detox water, fruit-flavoured water, or fruit-infused water; infused water can generally be any combination of fruits, vegetables, and herbs immersed in cold water. It has become a popular beverage of choice especially for people who wish to speed up  their metabolism, helps their body release fat cells, flush toxins from the body, and fill them up so they don’t eat as much.

With its apparent popularity, is it all just hype?

There are several studies confirming that fruit-infused water is good for you. The vitamins and minerals found in fruit seeps into the water turning an otherwise boring glass of water into a flavor-packed and nutrient-rich drink.

It is worth noting that there are different types of infused water nowadays. There are crystal-infused water, charcoal-infused water, maple infused water, and so on. These, however, are not as helpful as the fruit-infused variety.

Studies suggest that crystal water merely has a placebo effect on its drinker. Meanwhile, charcoal water is known for binding to practically everything so this may include nutrients from your food and even your medications meaning your body will absorb less of the good stuff when you take charcoal water. On the other hand, while maple syrup is packed with antioxidants and minerals, diluting it in water won’t give you as the same benefits other than added sugar.

The point is clear—infused water isn’t all just hype as long as you drink the right variety.
