Common Myths about Drinking Water


Everyone has a theory about water! That drinking water is healthy and even essential is undeniable! But, when it comes to the benefits of water, there are many myths. Here’s where we shatter them!

Myth: Drink at least 8 glasses of water in a day.

Fact: While doctors do recommend a minimum required amount of water intake, what most peope don’t realize is that our bodies require a certain amount of water. However, we consume water in numerous forms and drinking water is just one of them.

In addition to the multiple glasses of water we drink, we also get water through the consumption of tea, coffee, fruit juices, and food. Ideally, we should drink water as often as we get thirsty, and no more than that.

Myth: You can easily get dehydrated during a workout.

Fact: Over sixty percent of our body is made up of water. According to doctors, dehydration occurs when we lose over two percent of our body weight. Unless the weather is extremely hot and dry, it is nearly impossible to lose that much water during an average workout in the gym or a walk in the park.

Training athletes are recommended to consume 16 ounces of water a couple of hours before they practice. For the rest of us, well, a bottle of water is more than sufficient.

Myth: Water is the best thing to have after an intense workout.

An intense workout makes us sweat considerably, and our bodies end up losing considerable salts like sodium and potassium. It also causes our muscles to tire. That’s why, it’s better to have an energy drink that will help restore the electrolytes in our blood and provide instant energy, in addition to rehydrating us.
